Meal Plan and Grocery Shopping – August 15

I am so ready for fall! It’s been so hot this week, plus a heavy rainstorm on Wednesday (Aldi shopping day!). That was so irritating to go out in. If it could be fall soon so I could not sweat every day and wear my pretty fall clothes, I’d be so happy.

We’re still waiting to close on our house, the tentative date is the 23rd. I can’t wait!

Found lots of good deals this week, plus it is the beginning of a new work thing that is pretty exciting. More on that in my meal plan down below.

Total (minus ‘see below’ ingredients): $26.22!

Total for the week: $60.51

One of my freelance jobs is editing cookbooks. I’ve been doing this for a while now and they’ve asked me to test out some recipes from the books. In exchange for this, my ingredients for those dishes will be reimbursed.  That is why I purchased the chicken, shrimp, almond flour, fish sauce, and green onions, and did not include them in my grocery total.

My Meal Plan:

  • General Tso’s Chicken (from cookbook) – Chicken, almond flour, green onions
  • Honey and Soy Pork with Corn – Had all of the ingredients except the corn.
  • Orzo Skillet – Was on my list for last week and didn’t make it because I did not make chicken stock.
  • Smoked Sausage and Rice – Purchased pork sausage
  • Garlic Style Shrimp (from cookbook) – Shrimp, fish sauce, green onions

I only took a picture of my Aldi haul this week as it was very hot on Friday and I got heat exhaustion in my car with no air conditioning. I rushed through my Shaw’s trip, came home, threw everything in the fridge and laid down in the air conditioning for a while.

But on a happier note, on Friday I dropped off the deposit for our house! We are now under contract and it’s ours pending the inspection and closing and things of that nature. We also put in our notice to vacate our apartment this weekend. I can’t wait to get moved and start making a house into something that’s ours without anyone telling me what I can’t do to it.

Grocery Shopping and Meal Plan – July 11

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty busy. We ended up shopping twice at each store for reasons. We went back to Shaw’s on Saturday because I forgot a couple of things and my husband picked out some weight-gaining snacks for himself, and on Sunday we took my mother-in-law to Aldi to show her around and got a few more things. Those trips will not be counted in my weekly haul as they were mostly impulse buys.

We’re still working on buying a house but it’s looking pretty good so far. I will be so relieved to move, if only to shop at new stores because Shaw’s is constantly getting things wrong or overcharging me. If we get the house we’re working on, there will still be an Aldi in town but a Hannaford closer than Shaw’s. It will take some readjusting of my shopping methods but hopefully things will be better. There is also a Shaw’s somewhat close so I can still take advantage of their sales.

Aldi haul:

  • Gallon of milk – $1.49
  • Greek yogurt – $0.65 each
  • Frozen salmon – $3.79
  • Lactose-free milk – $2.79
  • Tub of regular yogurt – $2.99
  • Frozen strawberries – $2.09
  • Blueberries – $0.99 each
  • Saltines – $0.75
  • Grapes – $2.98
  • Strawberry jelly – $1.79
  • Olive oil – $3.19
  • Pork sausage – $2.99
  • Cereal – $1.29
  • Protein bars – $3.99
  • Breakfast cookies – $1.99
  • Can of diced tomatoes – $0.55
  • Tomato sauce – $0.25
  • Chickpeas – $0.65

Total: $38.15

Shaw’s haul:

  • Two boxes Nature Valley protein bars – B1G1
  • English muffins – B1G1
  • Shredded pizza cheese – $1.88 (they charged me for two, get it together Shaw’s)

  • Italian ice – B1G1
  • Bananas – $1.30
  • Corn – $1.60
  • Red pepper – $1
  • Protein packs – $1.18 for two with 2 coupons
