Fashion Friday – Cyber Monday Haul

On Cyber Monday I saw that my favorite makeup brand, NYX, was having a 40% off sale. I had to take advantage. I ended up with $40+ worth of stuff for only around $28. It finally came on Wednesday, so here’s my haul!

It all came packaged in this little lace bag. Isn’t it adorable?

I got The Curve eyeliner, Doll Eye mascara and an eyeshadow palette, Love in Paris in the A La Mode color scheme.

I also got three lip products, matte lipstick in Indie Flick, intense butter gloss in Toasted Marshmallow and soft matte lip cream in Copenhagen(!).

Eyeshadow swatches on arm, no primer underneath.

Eyeshadow swatches with flash.

Toasted Marshmallow

NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Toasted Marshmallow. Wow, these closeups are so not flattering.

Indie Flick

Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick.

I posted on my wishlist that I really really wanted the Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen, and now I have it!!! It came back in stock and I had to order it.

This is my look today with my new products. I’m wearing the eyeliner, mascara and Copenhagen. They all held up really really well all day, with slight smudges under my eye from the mascara I believe. Even after eating and drinking (carefully), the lip cream is a little dried out but still looks great! And most importantly, my eyeliner didn’t just fade off like everything else. I think we have a winner… except my skills at cat eyes. Guess I’m going to have to work on that.

Fashion Friday – Lip Collection and Swatches

I started this little project for myself, to see what I own and what each one looks like, but I thought I’d share it for Fashion Friday. I divided them by the main color I felt they all were, Natural, Red, Pink or Purple, even though most of them don’t look that way on. If you want more information about any of these products or additional swatches, please leave me a comment.

Naturals group. The picture below is of the swatches, top to bottom in the same order, with each name. All of my orange toned lip products are in this group.

Sorbet is the most sheer I own, while it is bright orange in the package. Honeycrisp is the most skin tone colored lipstick I own.

 photo Reds2_zpsjrzizqws.jpg
The Reds group. I wore the farthest left gloss at my wedding because it was the only thing I could find that wouldn’t transfer.

 photo Reds_zpstbtt3jrr.jpg
Chic Red obviously looks red in the package, but is somewhat pinkish on. Some of these should be in the naturals group.

 photo Pinks2_zpsxpcvo86i.jpg
The Pinks group. It’s small but a lot of the products in other categories should be in this one.

Some of the previous ones wouldn’t wash off.

 photo Purples2_zpstd6vj3xo.jpg
The Purples group. A lot of these are technically pink, but I consider them to have purple undertones when I wear them. More of a magenta I guess.

 photo Purples_zpstj6rr4pp.jpg
I was most disappointed by the last three. I’m in the market for a purple lipstick and these are far more pink than I wanted. Thalia is the lipstick I wear when I want a very light purple tone.

I hope you enjoyed a tour of my collection. I mainly did this because I’m a little addicted to buying lipstick and a lot of them end up the same color. I hoped I’d see what I already have so I wouldn’t buy more of the same. If you have recommendations for a good purple lipstick or even a more coral/orange one, please let me know.

27 lip products isn’t too bad, right? Do I have a problem?

Experiments with Biotin

I’ve always had issues with my nails, mostly because it’s a genetic problem. Both of my parents have absolutely terrible finger- and toenails. Ingrown toenails that are shaped funny and uneven, unhealthy looking fingernails. After my doctor put me on vitamin D supplements, I asked her if there was a vitamin to fix my nails and she recommended biotin.

After doing some internet research, I started taking 5000 mcg of biotin daily on April 25. It’s been three months now. Here are some before and after shots.

I wouldn’t say I’m especially hard on my hands unless you count constant typing. I do have bad habits of minor picking at my skin and ripping at my nails like if I have a small hangnail. As you can see in the before picture, my index fingers are the worst, with the strange white marks and uneven texture, which they all have to some degree.

I wear nail polish occasionally but it’s more trouble than it’s worth for me because it constantly chips right away and I end up peeling it off then.

Now it’s the day before my wedding and time to give myself a manicure so they look nicer for the pictures. Here are my nails after three months on biotin.

Not a ton has changed, they still grow funny and uneven and curl inwards, especially on the long nail on the ring finger of my right hand. I still get the occasional hangnail that I have to pick at, which is the main reason some of them are shorter. But they’re way more smooth now, and more strong. I haven’t had long nails since 6th grade because as soon as they get so long, they’d split below the tip of my finger. I haven’t had that happen since I started taking the biotin.

Now it’s time to cut my lovely long nails so they’re all even for the ring pictures we’re inevitably going to take tomorrow.

I definitely see improvement though, which is good. Anyone have tips for healthy, pretty nails?

Fashion Friday – May 22

You ever look at so many pictures of yourself that eventually you’re just like ‘Ew, is that what I really look like?’ That’s what I did today trying to get a picture for today’s post. And I didn’t realize that my bangs were that crooked, good grief.
So last week I posted a poll asking you guys what you wanted to see on Fridays. I got seven likes but apparently only one person voted. Thanks to whoever that was. The winner (but I’m going to leave it up for a while, so go tell me what you want to see!) said outfit of the day posts, which I thought about doing today but I’m only wearing jeans and this purple striped t-shirt. Not very interesting. So here’s a face of the day.

I’m wearing eyeshadow, but it’s official that eyeshadow hates my face. You can’t even see it.

I like to match my makeup to my outfit, which is apparently not cool, but oh well. I’m wearing purpleish blush and a purple toned lipstick. Gotta keep it subtle. And apparently this blush has glitter in it. Lovely.

What I’m wearing today, in order of application:

  • Pixi Flawless and Poreless Primer
  • ELF Eyelid Primer (not that it helps)
  • Pop Beauty Eyeshadow Trio in Naturally Bare
  • CK One Mascara
  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
  • NYX Dark Circle Concealer
  • Be a Bombshell One Stick in Girl Crush (blush)
  • Covergirl Pressed Powder
  • NYX Round Lipstick in Thalia (love this lipstick!)

Fashion Friday – Poll

I always struggle to write these posts. Instead of a post this time, I thought I’d ask my followers what they wanted to see more of. Take this poll and let me know?

Fashion Friday – Beauty Rave

So I have literally the worst dark circles ever. I have very visible veins all over, especially under my eyes, and they’re probably made worse by putting in contacts every day. I’ve tried a dozen different concealers and some of them work okay.

I was in Ulta the other day, debating on which lipstick to buy, and I found this. It’s NYX, so it was inexpensive and probably decent quality, so I tried it (and did not buy a single lipstick that day).

Please ignore my terrible, second-day, hand trimmed bangs in this picture. Also it might be slightly out of focus because my phone just does not like to focus anything. It took me several minutes to get a readable version of the above picture.

Voila, no dark circles. I’m sure it could be even better with practice, but I’m pretty happy with the results so far. It has a funky texture at the moment if you look really close, but I’m sure that’s an application error on my part. 9/10, love this product.

Also wearing:

  • Pixi Flawless and Poreless primer
  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
  • Benefit Dandelion blush
  • Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big mascara
  • Mirabella Perfecting Powder
  • Burt’s Bees lip balm

My New Vanity!

You guys, I’m so excited! I’ve been dying for a vanity forever, to put my makeup on at a nice, lighted mirror instead of leaning over the bathroom counter.

My parents got me this as a late (very late) Christmas present today, though it was more like “here’s the money, go buy it and put it together yourself.” Which I did, it took me at least an hour. Especially when I put one of the pieces on backwards and had to take it apart again.

It’s just a plain desk, but it’s a nice desk and I already had a mirror, my grandmother’s light up mirror from the 70s. I still need to get more organizational stuff (the drawers are a mess) but yay, a vanity!

Closer picture. I need a better brush cup and some acrylic makeup holders (must display my lovely lipstick collection!) but it will work. The earring holder to the left is holding mostly my handmade earrings, I should get back into doing that. On the right behind my brush cup is my perfume/body spray collection.

Left drawer currently holds my palettes and fake eyelashes, middle drawer has face stuff and eye stuff, right drawer is full of lip stuff. The side drawers are super disappointing, they only go back half of the width of the desk. So much empty space.
