What I Read Wednesday – The Book of James by Ellen J. Green

The Book of James

The Book of James will be published on June 30, 2015. I read this book courtesy of NetGalley.

Mackenzie’s world changes abruptly when her husband Nick dies in a car accident with her behind the wheel. His dying words send her on a new and frightening adventure: “Find James.”

Nick’s will reveals that she is the recipient of millions of dollars she didn’t know he had, considering they’d been struggling with and arguing over money for most of their marriage. This just makes her wonder what else she didn’t know about her husband, including the fact that his mother hadn’t died of cancer as he told her.

As she travels to his hometown and gets to know people who knew Nick as a boy, including his estranged mother, the more she learns, the more frightening it becomes. Some people have secrets and would do anything to stop her from revealing them. It’s no wonder Nick escaped when he could.

Everything comes to a swift end as Mackenzie figures out who James is, what happened to him, and what he has to do with her husband.

This book is full of delightful yet suspenseful twists and turns as you learn the secrets along with Mackenzie. It really makes you think twice about how well you really know the people you are close to and what they could be capable of. I rate this book a 4/5 because it has a satisfying ending with everything tied up nicely.
